Manufacturing Processes And Materials For Precision Injection Molds

Jun 16, 2026 Leave a message

The manufacturing of precision injection molds requires high-precision machining equipment and advanced processes. CNC machining utilizes high-precision equipment to achieve micron-level positioning and accurately machine mold components. Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) is employed to create complex mold cavities with precision reaching ±0.01 mm. Wire-cut EDM enables the precise cutting of minute mold parts, achieving an accuracy of ±0.005 mm. Specialized techniques, such as 3D printing conformal cooling channels, are used to optimize mold cooling systems and effectively control product deformation.

Precision injection molds demand materials of exceptional quality; high-grade alloy steels characterized by high mechanical strength, excellent wear resistance, and strong corrosion resistance are typically selected. Materials used for cavities and runners undergo rigorous heat treatment, as molding components require high hardness-often around HRC 52. In high-end applications, hardness levels may exceed HRC 50–60 to withstand the friction and impact associated with high-pressure injection molding while maintaining dimensional accuracy.
